BEIJING, Dec. 22, 2011 – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) recently added South China University of Technology as the 11th university to participate in its China scholarship program. In 2011, PPG honored 100 talented students in chemistry-related disciplines at Chinese universities through its scholarship program, showing its commitment to education and to China.

PPG established its China scholarship program in 2003 to recognize high-achieving students and encourage them to pursue careers in the Chinese chemical industry. Students majoring in chemistry-related disciplines who perform at top levels in both academic and practical areas may apply for the PPG scholarships.

The 11 universities participating in PPG’s China scholarship program are:

  • Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics
  • Beijing University of Chemical Technology
  • East China University of Science and Technology
  • Jilin University
  • Nanjing University
  • Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics
  • Nanjing University of Technology
  • Nankai University
  • South China University of Technology
  • Tianjin University
  • Wuhan University of Technology

“Supporting education and talent development has always been a priority for PPG,” said Cathy Yan, PPG general manager, government affairs and business development, Asia/Pacific. “The PPG China scholarship program serves as a foundation for the company’s talent search and development efforts here. In the eight years since it was established, the program has awarded more than 500 scholarships to Chinese students. We will continue to develop relationships with additional universities in China, extending the program to reward more excellent students.”

This year, PPG also launched campus recruiting initiatives with Tianjin University, Nankai University and three other universities. Corporate representatives visited each campus and talked with students about PPG’s business and culture, as well as the company’s leading positions in the regional and global chemicals industries.

“PPG’s scholarship program helps more Chinese students to be able to realize their dreams,” said Mr. Zhu Liqun, dean of the material science and engineering college at Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics. “The program has established a strong foundation for cooperation and communication between PPG and China’s colleges, and we hope to build on this in the future.”

In September, PPG established a scholarship program in Korea recognizing eight academically outstanding chemistry students at Pusan National University with awards to encourage their future achievement.
