PPG Dover plant employees pledge more than $10,000 to United Way of Delaware

PPG Industries’ architectural coatings manufacturing facility in Cheswold recently completed its 2011 fund-raising effort for United Way of Delaware, raising more than $10,000 through plant employees’ contributions. DOVER, Del., Nov. 7, 2011 – Employees at PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) architectural coatings manufacturing facility in Cheswold have pledged $10,323 to support United Way of Delaware’s annual campaign. Additionally, PPG Industries Foundation made an early-commitment contribution of $5,000 that kicked off the local plant’s fund-raising effort.

"We are happy to have built a strong relationship with PPG, and we appreciate their commitment to the 2011 campaign," said Michelle A. Taylor, president and chief executive officer of United Way of Delaware (UWD). “The support of PPG and others allows United Way of Delaware to invest in programs focused on improving education, income and health in Kent, Sussex and New Castle counties.”

In addition to funding a network of health and social service programs, UWD is engaged in Live United 2015, a long-term strategy to improve the quality of life for all Delawareans. To do this, UWD is leading collaborative efforts to help children and youths achieve their potential, to promote financial stability and independence, and to connect Delawareans in need with health-care resources.

“PPG is strongly committed to enhancing the communities where its employees work and live, and through United Way of Delaware we can help support many important services, especially here in Kent County,” said Mitch Magee, plant manager, PPG Dover. “We are proud that, even with current economic challenges, our employee participation was higher than last year at 76 percent, and our plant’s total annual campaign donation exceeded $15,000.”
