PITTSBURGH, Aug. 11, 2011 – PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) announced that it has donated ACCU-TAB(R) tablet chlorination systems for municipal pools in nine Ohio Valley communities surrounding the company’s Natrium, W.Va., facility to offer community residents a healthy swimming experience this summer.

West Virginia communities McMechen, New Martinsville, Paden City and Sisterville, and Ohio communities Hannibal, New Matamoras, Powhatan Point, Shadyside and Woodsfield all received Accu-Tab system donations. The municipal pools in these towns collectively serve more than 20,000 residents and have a combined average of approximately 1,000 swimmers each day.

“Because of economic conditions, we did not open our pool last year as a cost-cutting effort,” said Tim Merryman, Shadyside city councilman. “We had a big push this year to open the pool, and PPG’s donation was an absolute godsend since chemicals are our major cost. We also have found the Accu-Tab system to be so much easier than the liquid chlorination system we used previously. I cannot thank PPG enough for what it has done for our community.”

Chemicals used to make Accu-Tab calcium hypochlorite tablets are manufactured at PPG’s Natrium, W.Va., facility, one of the largest chlorine manufacturing plants in the United States.

“We are very pleased to help our employees and other residents in the towns surrounding our Natrium facility to continue enjoying their municipal pools during what has been a particularly hot summer,” said Mike Hoops, PPG business manager for calcium hypochlorite products.

The Accu-Tab tablet chlorination system from PPG offers safe, simple and effective chlorination for a wide range of applications, including aquatics, food processing, drinking water and wastewater. The system’s patented technology combines specially-engineered Accu-Tab chlorinators with proprietary Accu-Tab 3-inch calcium hypochlorite tablets to form a complete, NSF-certified system.
