DOVER, Del., May 31, 2011 – The PPG Industries Foundation has awarded a PPG Plant Community Scholarship to Kathleen Hartung, a senior at Caesar Rodney High School, and two PPG Employee-Child Scholarships to Megan Hershberger, daughter of PPG employee Brenda Hershberger and a senior at Caesar Rodney High School, and Ron W. Rider Jr., son of PPG employee Ron Rider Sr. and a senior at St. Thomas More Academy. All three students plan to start their college studies in the fall.

The three Dover-area scholarship recipients were selected by National Merit Scholarship Corp. based on excellent achievement in a qualifying test taken during their junior year. The PPG Plant Community Scholarship recognizes an outstanding student who resides near a PPG Industries facility, such as the architectural coatings manufacturing plant in Cheswold, and the PPG Employee-Child Scholarship recognizes high-achieving students who are children of PPG employees. Each award is for $1,500 per year for up to four years of college study or until undergraduate degree requirements are completed, whichever occurs first. Since the foundation initiated the PPG Industries Aid-to-Education Scholarship Program in 1956, it has awarded more than 3,200 scholarships. In 2011, the foundation sponsored 19 Plant Community Scholarships in PPG facility communities and 40 Employee-Child Scholarships.
