TIANJIN, China, March 3, 2011 – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) employees in China donated clothes and school supplies to children in earthquake-stricken Yushu County, Qinghai Province, before the Spring Festival this year.

Since heavy snow unexpectedly fell on Yushu County in 2008, PPG has encouraged employees to donate money or supplies for children in this area each winter. After an earthquake struck the county in April 2010, PPG donated necessity items to help improve living conditions for children in the area.

In this, the first winter after the earthquake, PPG employees from plants in Tianjin, Shanghai, Wuhu, Kunshan and Suzhou actively participated in the latest donation program. Everything collected to date went to Butter Lamp Children’s Home in Yushu, which distributed the donated items to children in different villages.

“Recognition of the concerns and needs of society is a key corporate value of PPG,” said Cathy Yan, PPG general manager, government affairs and business development, Asia/Pacific. “We have paid special attention to the children in Yushu County and will continue to focus on the situation there, encouraging employees to engage in aid efforts as needed.”

Other recent corporate social responsibility efforts by PPG in China include donating ”green” coatings to the Tianjin Institute of Children’s Welfare and the Second Welfare Home in Wuhu, Anhui Province, and donating RMB 500,000 toward relief efforts after the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. In September 2009, PPG helped to rebuild 50 “PPG Care Libraries” in earthquake-stricken Zitong County, Mianyang City, Sichuan Province, with a total donation of approximately RMB 4 million including coatings and more than 150,000 books for the libraries.
