McCARRAN, Nev., Feb. 9, 2011 – Employees at PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) architectural coatings manufacturing facility in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Park in McCarran helped to obtain $2,500 in grants through the PPG Industries Foundation for local schools and organizations in 2010, and the foundation donated $2,500 to United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) for operating support in 2010. The employee-requested grants were obtained through foundation programs that recognize PPG employees’ participation in their communities.

Through a program called Public Education Leadership Community (PELC) grants, PPG employee Trish McAndrew requested two $1,000 foundation grants to support Gator Math Wizards and Gator Marathon Madness programs for Alyce Taylor Elementary School. Any PPG employee may sponsor up to three PELC grant requests annually, to support projects meeting program requirements at public schools where they are involved.

Also in 2010, Plant Manager Terry McGinnis obtained a grant for the Boy Scouts of America Nevada Area Council through the foundation’s Grant Incentives for Volunteerism by PPG Employees and Retirees (GIVE) program, which recognizes employee and retiree volunteerism with annual grants of $500 for an ongoing volunteer relationship.

Additionally, the PPG Industries Foundation donated $2,500 to United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) for operating support. It has contributed annually to the local United Way since the plant began operation in 2008.

“PPG is strongly committed to supporting the communities where its employees work and live,” McGinnis said. “We are proud that our employees participate in the PPG Industries Foundation’s employee programs to actively assist local public schools and nonprofit organizations where they have an interest. Additionally, we are proud to support United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra in its efforts to help improve the lives of people in our community.”

Established in 1951, the PPG Industries Foundation demonstrates the values of PPG Industries by enhancing the quality of life in communities where the company has a presence. Interests of the foundation, in order of priority, are education, human services, culture and arts, and civic and community affairs. PPG also supports charitable causes by encouraging employee volunteerism and executives’ involvement with nonprofit organizations.
