PITTSBURGH, Oct. 20, 2017 – PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced the completion of 10 COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™ projects at various organizations in the Pittsburgh area as part of United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s Day of Caring. The Colorful Communities program provides PPG volunteers and products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates around the world.

The project brought together more than 300 PPG volunteers, who spent the day revitalizing classrooms, adding color to housing and creating murals for Bethlehem Haven, LaRosa Boys & Girls Club of McKeesport, Camp Guyasuta for Boy Scouts of America, Glade Run Lutheran Services, Human Services Center Corporation, the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, Pressley Street High Rise, Rachel Carson Homestead, Veterans Leadership Program of Western PA and YMCA Homewood-Brushton. PPG provided more than 430 gallons of PPG PAINTS™ products to assist with the projects, which will positively impact more than 1 million individuals served by the organizations.

United Way’s Day of Caring is about bringing together teams of volunteers to help local non-profit organizations across Allegheny, Butler, Westmoreland, Fayette and Southern Armstrong Counties. Volunteers take to the streets, offices, playgrounds, schools and more to help local organizations better serve people in need in the community.

“PPG is pleased to join with United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania to make an impact in communities where PPG has a long-standing history,” said Sue Sloan, PPG executive director, corporate global social responsibility. “We are also proud that our employees have chosen to spend this day sharing our mission to bring color and vitality to local communities.”

The Colorful Communities program is PPG’s signature initiative for community engagement efforts, with the aim to protect and beautify the neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world. The program increases PPG’s commitment to invest in communities and supports projects that transform community assets, providing PPG volunteers and donated PPG products. In 2015 and 2016 combined, PPG completed nearly 60 Colorful Communities projects, and it expects to complete about 75 more this year.

“United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania values our long-standing partnership with PPG. This year our collaboration is focused on improving the lives of women, children, families, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities,” said Lois Mufuka-Martin, chief volunteer engagement officer, United Way. “We are particularly excited because of the enthusiasm of PPG’s Young Professional Organization and their efforts to mobilize volunteers, a wonderful sign that the next generation also cares deeply about our community.”
