BAYAMON, Puerto Rico, June 8, 2017 – As part of its global community engagement efforts, PPG (NYSE: PPG) has announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™ project at the [Banco de Alimentos de Puerto Rico][http://bancodealimentopr.org/] (Food Bank of Puerto Rico). The project involved more than 190 gallons of GLIDDEN® and PPG PAINTS™ products as well as approximately 35 PPG employees who volunteered to help restore and beautify the nonprofit organization’s facility.

The Food Bank of Puerto Rico obtains and distributes more than 4 million pounds of food and food products per year, along with personal care and cleaning products, serving more than 123,000 individuals annually through more than 500 agencies across the island. It also provides food security to more than 300 children through the Programa de La Mochila Alegre (Children's Backpack Program).

In addition to PPG’s revitalization project to protect and enhance the Food Bank building, the PPG Foundation donated $10,000 to support the organization’s programs that provide food to local students and families in need.

“We are very excited about PPG's support through its Colorful Communities initiative. We are going to be able to welcome our affiliated organizations, donors and volunteers with more strength and in a colorful and energetic environment,” said Ivonne M. Bernard Rivera, executive director of the Food Bank of Puerto Rico. “We appreciate the donation made by the PPG Foundation, which will help us continue developing and strengthening our organization’s mission so that no one is left without food.”

Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, PPG director of architectural coatings, Caribbean, said, “It is a pleasure and an honor for PPG to be able to give back to our community and create a positive impact with organizations that work to make the island a better place. Supporting organizations like Banco de Alimentos is important to PPG, especially in trying economic times. We’re grateful to collaborate with this organization and help support thousands of families in need.”

The Colorful Communities project involved high-performing PPG products such as PPG Paints SPEEDHIDE® paint, Glidden SPRED COMPLETE® paint and Glidden RUSTMASTER® enamel. Formulated with anti-corrosion properties, the Rustmaster product is a high gloss enamel that prevents rust on metal. Additionally, the Spred Complete product protects against ultraviolet (UV) rays, color fading and extreme weather conditions, a necessity for the harsh weather patterns of Puerto Rico.

In honor of the day of service, a representative with the mayor of Bayamón officially proclaimed June 8, 2017, as “PPG Colorful Communities Day.”

PPG has had a presence on the island for more than 50 years. Today, the company employs approximately 200 people in Puerto Rico, and it operates more than 40 Glidden and PPG Paints stores across the island.
