PITTSBURGH, April 30, 2018 – PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™ project in the Homewood area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that helped revitalize the YMCA Business Employment Office. The Colorful Communities program provides PPG volunteers and products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates around the world, such as in Pittsburgh, PPG’s global headquarters city.

The project brought together more than 20 PPG volunteers, who spent the day painting and revitalizing the YMCA office space. PPG provided approximately 40 gallons of PPG PAINTS™ products for the project.

The Colorful Communities event was conducted in partnership with the American Red Cross’ “Sound the Alarm” initiative, where volunteers installed free smoke alarms, replaced batteries in existing alarms and provided fire safety education at residences in the Homewood neighborhood on the same day. PPG provided $10,000 to the American Red Cross to assist with the project.

The YMCA Business Employment Office serves approximately 3,000 people per year, including area residents who receive assistance in conducting job searches, preparing resumes, completing online job applications and more. The office holds two job fairs each year and recruitment events for local businesses.

Volunteers painted the office in a color palette of blue and tan. These colors were chosen to create a professional and welcoming space.

“PPG is always excited to give back to our local communities,” said Sue Sloan, PPG executive director, corporate social responsibility. “We’re happy to be working with the YMCA to give the organization and the people it serves the employment office that they deserve.”

The Colorful Communities program, PPG’s signature initiative for supporting communities, aims to protect and beautify the neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world. Through the Colorful Communities program, PPG’s committed volunteers contribute their time and PPG paint products to help transform community assets – from painting classrooms, to bringing color to a maternity ward and redesigning a playground.
